School: This might come in handy...

There are a lot of ways to study for Criminal Procedure exam, but one of the most entertaining has to be the ACLU-produced "Busted: Flex Your Rights" video:



While I don't agree with all the positions the ACLU takes, I have to admit, most of the above video is sound advice. A lot of people don't realize just how easy it is to unintentionally or unknowingly consent to being searched. A lot of the cases in our textbook begin when some lamebrain allows police to search their car/home/backpack, wherein the police find drugs/guns/dead bodies.

Most police officers are very good at getting people to consent to searches or even to confess altogether. There's nothing unlawful or even unethical about this, at least in my eyes - if you're going to blab, you might as well face the consequences. Generally, of course, that is what happens.

Some of this applies to a lawful self-defense shooting and dealing with the inevitable police response afterward. I am not a lawyer and don't even have any real world experience in these cases, so I won't even guess whether you should stay silent or try to explain your side of the story.
